Fall in New England is a great time to plan a fun weekend outing with the family. Spending time in nature and away from the daily rush of activities is also a great time to grab a bite to eat while you decompress.
If you’re planning outings for the next few weekends, you’ll want to check your town’s calendar and see what fun things are in store.
Here are some ideas for fall fun in Connecticut:
Going on a bumpy hayride is a common fall activity for many who have grown up in the region. A wooden trailer hitched to a large tractor pulls you around an orchard or farm as you take in the majestic scenery. There are even some night time hayrides —some romantic, some haunted— if that’s your thing.
Picking your own fruits and vegetables is an activity that many enjoy. While berry picking is typical for summer months, in fall enjoyment comes from roaming apple orchards and pumpkin patches in search of the perfect pick. Nothing signifies the upcoming Halloween season more than pumpkins. Visiting a patch to hand select the ones you’d like and then carving them and putting them on your front step. It doesn’t get more nostalgic than that.
Connecticut is home to some of the most enchanting fall foliage and scenic drives in the country. The first few weeks of October are the best time to get in the car and drive through the roadways to see all of the beautiful colors on the trees before the leaves fall from the branches for winter. Consider mapping out a hike for another great view of the autumn beauty outside of the car too.
